TomBlog - earth calling orson

And so semi-crippled, with an insane head-cold, so drugged up my short-term memory is shot, we approach the end of the first leg of our tour. Steroids, antibiotics, ambian, emergen-C, anti-histamine, decongestant, valium, airborne, tylenol, albutamol: these are my recently assembled allies. The axis of remedial. Now don't lecture me please. I'm not some scrip-junkie. I just got very sick and this concoction is allowing the show to go on. It's working..okay? I had to bow out of a little sojourn ben, e and blake took to san diego yesterday, but I hear things went swimmingly out on their boat. We had a miraculous show in Los Angeles...truly. A great show, as always, in San Francisco, and here we are. Portland, Oregon. A town where our fortunes seem to rise and fall like the tides. Sometimes it's a sell-out, sometimes there's a man, his dog and a mug-tree for company. Can't tell you why. Hopefully tonight will be typically unpredictable. Tomorrow, Sasquatch. I'm told its beautiful, though from under these drugged-out lids, most everything seems quite warm and pretty: even the pissing rain outside the window of our bus. And so, once again, to sound-check. Is sound there? Yes. Great. Let's go the pub.

I knew it … I knew you must have been sick or had some sort of horrible incident, because you just weren't your usual spirited self at the SF show on Wenesday. Not too worry though, it was still a fantastic show; you guys f-ing rocked. Miss you already… come back… come back…

Oh, please feel better soon, Tom. I do wish you the best...

We loved you in SF and I want more more more... seeing you play is like having only a snack when you're hungry--it's just a tease for your appetite. In the last 48 hours I've read press, tracked down the video, set the dvr to catch breakfast with the arts and the craig ferguson show tonight... And I'm just trying, in vain I'm sure, to finagle my way from CA to TN for bonaroo... You AND MMJ?!

Can't wait to share your presence again soon. Take care, and my best to the boys...

Try Eugene next time. A college town filled with hippies some of them old enough to have been real hippies. Portland... its okay (grew up just south of there). A little to "I'm so artsy because I wear black and do drugs" for my taste. Plus the rain there give England a run for its money.

Drove from Seattle to Portland to see you guys last night. We were wondering, Tom, why you weren't quite as rambuncious as you usually are, and now we know. Thanks for making those of us in the booze pen still feel like a part of the show (I was happy to be in the front). Fan-freakin'-tastic gig, regardless! We had a great time! Loved the version of Ruff Stuff.

Thanks to Blackie for taking some time to talk to us after the show. Too bad the camera wasn't working!

Can't wait to see you in this neck of the woods again. Cheers!

Hi Tom -

Hope you're feeling better. I was at the L.A. show and it was truly brilliant. I've seen you guys five times now, and that was the best. Come back soon!

Oh Tom,
I am so sorry to hear you're not well. The best medicine is rest...in addition to your plethora of prescriptions. The colds this season were monsters for some reason. We all got sick with the nasty, icky things. I’m sure it doesn’t help that you are not in the comfort of your own home with your wife to help you to recoup. Plenty of tea and sympathy helps colds too.
One thing is for sure though—you guys are out there making a lot of people happy. You all are loved and appreciated. It may not show in some places, but you are gaining love here. You gained 3 or more while in Georgia...vastly more if I can flap my big mouth enough.

Warm wishes for your speedy recovery, Tom.
Love,
Vikki

Glad to see you fellows do a splendid job on the Craig Whoever-He-IS late night show the other night, but none of you were looking too jolly...
Hang in there!

Was at Portland and Sasquatch -- great shows, both of them. Was surprised to see you out and about after the hailstorm given you're under the weather. I suppose some things are just too amazingly ridiculous to miss, despite illness. Glad you got your set in before the flood (of Biblical proportions).

i left work kinda early and made it to the wonder ballroom as some of the boys were venturing off by cab. looking to pick up my ticket, i was turned away until 7. i made my way to the white eagle and set up camp. later we ran into Ben outside before the show; we were feeling great. "good show guys." that's what came to mind. i should have said: "this new album is 5 star." really. "career defining", i read was the goal. goal accomplished. well done gentlemen. the show was everything i hoped it would be. and as for portland, it definitely has a tendency to believe it is cooler than you. it's a good town though, as long as you keep perspecitve: illegitimi non carborundum.

lecture?! For the drugs? kudos babe. I don't think there are many here who arent generally on some sort of concoction, just to get to and through the day.

missed this tour, but do tell where those great gigs with a man and beer are, cuz Ive always wanted a private show...not quite the same energy, but really I bring plenty of my own.
